SUMMARY:KFGC Action Pistol Practice 7-20-26
DESCRIPTION:KFGC Action Pistol Practice is an opportunity for shooters to practice their shooting skills\, test new equipment\, and have a good time. It is an excellent opportunity for shooters new to action shooting to give it a try before entering a match. This event intends to provide practice time for experienced competitive shooters by providing a variety of drills that build skills and speed. It also offers first-time competitors a stress-free\, friendly environment where they can learn about competitive shooting through practical application. New shooters will be “coached\,” by more experienced competition shooters.\nCompetitors must bring safety eyewear\, hearing protection\, a suitable firearm\, a sturdy belt\, a belt-mounted holster they feel comfortable drawing from\, enough magazines to carry 30 rounds\, and 100 rounds of ammunition. It’s recommended that competitors bring magazine pouches but you’re also welcome to put spare magazines in your pockets if you don’t have magazine pouches. All Competitors are expected to demonstrate safe weapons handling at all times. Competitor check-in will begin at 4:30 pm at KFGC pit 4. A safety briefing will be at 4:50 pm and shooting starts at 5:00 pm.\nAll firearms shall be unloaded and cased upon entering KFGC. Once inside pit 4\, check in with Nola or Rich\, and if you are new to the practice\, the Range Officers will walk you through the process of gearing up with your firearm. This event will be a “COLD RANGE”. Do NOT gear up in any location other than on the range under the supervision of the staff.

A hit only counts if it’s a solid gong hit\, chain or hanger hits do not count. If the shooter misses\, they must go back one gong. If the shooter shoots the wrong gong\, it counts as a zero and the shooter must resume shooting on the correct gong.\nTHE SCORE- The score is totaled after each shooter\, with a possible high score of 27 points (1+2+3+3+3+3+3+3+3+3=27). A complete game has every shooter fire 5 complete sets for a total of 50 rounds of ammunition (1 full box). The highest possible score for a competition is 135 points. In case of a tie score\, the winner is determined by the shooter with the highest single round score.\nTHE COMPETITORS- The order of the shooters in the first set is determined by drawing numbered chips\, and in each successive set the order of the shooters is determined by the scores\, with the lowest score shooting first. If two or more shooters have identical scores\, whoever shot the score initially will shoot first in the following round. (If Tom shoots an 11\, and then Dave also shoots an 11\, Tom will go before Dave in the following round.)\nTHE CHALLENGE- Hitting gongs at 88 ft. with a .22 LR pistol is challenging. Hitting them repeatedly under changing conditions requires all the fundamentals used by the best long-distance shooters in the world. Do you think you have what it takes?\nNote: We will give a one 5 shot sight in before the 1st round @ a steel sighter plate only. This is done when it is your turn to shoot only.\nPlease come out and join us for some\, or all these events. While competitive in spirit\, these matches are fun shoots and there are plenty of shooters willing to help if you are interested in joining us!\nTime:\n-Gates Open: 1:00 pm\n-Check-in: 1:30 pm\n-Match Brief: 1:45 pm\n-Match Start: 2:00 pm\n-Cost: $10 for IWLA Clear Spring members\, $15 for non members\nThere is no sight in period before match starts – come ready to shoot.\nThe match is held at the IWLA Clear Spring pistol range off of Independence Rd. Note that the Route 40 bridge over Conococheague Creek and the south portion of Independence Rd will be closed for bridge construction. There will be no entry off Route 40 from the East. Entry will be via Rockdale Rd and Independence Rd from the north. Signs should be posted to detour around the bridge closure.\nGPS coordinates of the pistol range: 39.662696\, -77.837639
