SUMMARY:West Houston 4th Wed Steel Challenge May 27
DESCRIPTION:Regular 4th Wednesday Steel Challenge at Peacemakers Gun Range. New shooters welcome & encouraged.\nSteel Challenge stages consist of 5 steel plates with one plate designated as the Stop Plate. You can shoot the plates in whatever order you like but the Stop Plate must be last because hitting the Stop Plate ends the current String of Fire. Your String doesn’t end until you hit the Stop Plate so you can keep taking make up shots on missed plates until you decide to hit the Stop Plate or reach the 30 second maximum time.\nYou shoot 5 Strings in a row and your score for that stage is the total time of the best 4 Strings combined. The lowest total time across all stages wins. Most stages are shot stationary from within a shooting box\, but one stage does require you to move between boxes on the clock.\nThere are Divisions for Centerfire pistols\, Pistol Caliber Carbines\, 22 Rimfire pistols and 22 Rimfire rifles. All Rimfire pistols and all rifles start low ready\, pointing at a start mark so you don’t need a holster or mag pouches for these divisions.\nA typical Wednesday night match has 4 Stages\, so the *minimum* round count – not including misses or makeup shots – is 100.\nFor more information check out the quick start guide for Steel Challenge on our website: https://westhoustonshootersclub.com/steel-challenge/\n2025 Annual (optional) Membership Fee: $45\nMatch Fees: Cash\, Check\, or Zelle at Check-In: Members/$25; Non-Members/$30\nFor an extra $10 (no discounts)\, shoot a second Division by registering twice – be sure you enter both on the same squad. Maximum 2 Guns Please.\nGate Opens for Set Up about 4:30p. Sign-In from 5:30p – 5:45p; Match begins 6:00p sharp! Match usually ends at 8p or a little after. New shooters attending your 1st match…please arrive at the range no later than 5:30p & promptly identify yourself as a “New Shooter” so we can run you through our New Shooter Briefing in a timely manner.\nOnline registration closes the day of the Match at 3:00pm. IF THE MATCH IS FULL\, WE CANNOT GUARANTEE WALK UP SLOTS.

Bay 1-5. Shooters may drop their gear at the top but please park down the road or in the lot as parking at the top is needed for match staff. The main road gate and BTSA gates are scheduled to be opened at 5:30 pm to allow entry for non-members but may be open earlier if members are already up to at the facility. \nWhen:\nEvery: Wednesday from April 22 – September 16\, 2026\nSetup typically begins at 5:30pm and safety briefing at 6 pm unless otherwise stated at the top of the match description. We are typically done in about 2.5 hours. All competitors are expected to be present for setup and to remain for tear down. If you will be running late\, please send the MD an email. Start times may move a little throughout the season to accommodate sunset times. Make sure to check the start time for each event.\nCost:\nOnline payments only\nBTSA members- $5 per gun\, max 2 guns\nNon-members- $15 per gun\, max 2 guns\nJuniors (under 18\, member and non-member)- First gun free. Additional gun at full member/non-member price.\nWho to contact with questions:\nPlease email steel@btsa.club\nWhat to bring:\nWork Gloves\nWater\nFood\nSunscreen\nHat\nEye/ear protection (required to participate)\nTimer if you have one\nGun\nChamber flag for pcc/rimfire\n5+ mags: You may participate with as many as you have. Someone on your squad will be able to help you reload as you shoot if you have 3-4 mags. Shooters with 1-2 mags will only be able to shoot their loaded magazines as reloading this much on the course will slow down the evening too much. 10 round magazines are strongly recommended for pcc shooters. Please pre-load your magazines at home when possible.\nAmmo: 100 rounds minimum for 4 stages. Experienced shooters should bring 150-200. Novice shooters should bring 250.\nHolster: belt holster for any Center fire handguns that fully covers the trigger. “concealment/IWB” holsters are not permitted. Rimfire guns are not drawn from the holster. It is best to bring a case/gun bag for these.\nGun belt for holster divisions \nShooter results:\nResults will be posted to PractiScore\, usually the same night. If you need your results to be anonymous\, make sure to contact the match director well in advance.\nFirst time shooters/new to steel challenge:\nYou must contact steel@btsa.club if you will be coming out for your first steel challenge. We need to know what your previous experience level is and if we will have enough experienced staff to accommodate you. When you arrive\, please leave all your gear in your vehicle and identify yourself to an official/person in charge. We will place you on a squad with some experienced shooters to help get you started. Please note\, when a family member is on the line\, they are under the care of the range officer. Please do not distract them from following the RO’s instructions. If the RO is unfamiliar with your particular firearm\, they will ask for input as needed. If you would like coaching or advice while you are shooting\, please let the RO know and they should be happy to oblige.\nA note regarding classifications:\nClassifications are used to help competitors measure their success against shooter shooting with a similar ability and skill set. A D class production shooter and a Grand Master rimfire rifle open shooter can’t be equally compared. In order to earn a classification\, you must be a current USPSA member and complete any 4 stages in a single division. Classifications are specific to each division and do not carry over between Steel Challenge and USPSA. To check your classification\, go to SCSA.org (not USPSA.org).\nRule book:\nThe official steel challenge rule book governs our Wednesday night matches please make sure to give it a read through so that you are familiar with the rules\, commands\, and equipment divisions.\n****AT AN ABSOLUTE MINIMUM\, ALL COMPETITORS SHOULD READ CHAPTERS 1\,5\,6\,8\, AND 10 AS THEY COVER SAFETY\, BASIC RUNNING OF THE MATCH\, AND DQ-ABLE OFFENCES****** \nhttps://scsa.org/rules\nRefunds\nIf you are withdrawing from the match\, please email steel@btsa.club for the most timely refund. Refunds for voluntary withdrawals will be less credit card processing fees and must be received by the registration closing date so we have a chance to attempt to fill the empty slot. If the match needs to be cancelled due to conditions or unexpected events\, a full refund will be issued less any unrecoverable expenses (none are typical for weekend matches and this applies more to provincial/national matches)
