SUMMARY:Long Range Rifle Fundamentals Course - Part 2 (200 -500 Yards) 13/14 Jun 2026
DESCRIPTION:Google Directions for Vimy Range Gate: 44°16’22.4″N 79°55’22.2″W\nQuestions? Head Coach: Coach Sammy craig@coachsammy.ca\nLine Coaches: Coach Mike\, Coach Phil\nThis course is about Elevation\, and how to generate elevation firing solutions for any distance using a Ballistic Solver for your Rifle / Ammo combo. You will learn how to use Ballistic Solvers (either with a Kestrel or the AB Quantum App on your smart phone) to generate very accurate elevation. You will learn to generate accurate elevation dope for any distance and to start to read wind at level 1\, as well as why Cant has such a big effect on accuracy.\nCoach Sammy teaches long range shooting in 3 parts\, using the acronym FEW.\nFEW stands for Fundamentals\, Elevation\, Wind. 3 Subjects over 3 courses that will enable you to shoot accurately out to 1000 yards with the appropriate rifle\, ammo\, scope and ability.\n(Attendance of Part 1 of this course is a requirement. If you feel you don’t need to do part 1 because of your experience\, please email me).\nWhat this course is:\nThis course is aimed at Shooters that want to shoot long range but need knowledge and experience and be able to generate elevation for any distance\, and to learn Wind Basics.\n– Ballistic Solvers (i.e. Kestrel or AB Quantum App) and creating gun profiles\, and ballistic firing solutions.\n– Wind 1 is covered relating to the distances.\n– Pre shot routines\, mental checklist\, recoil management\, sight picture.\nWhat you will learn at the Course:\n– Shoot a min. of 100 rounds\, learn to shoot groups that are centred at distances of 200 to 500 yards using firing solutions developed with your Kestrel or AB Quantum App.\n– Ammo choices that make you consistent.\n– CANT – why it’s important and why you use a scope level.\nWhat this Course is not:\n– This course is not an “Intro to shooting” type course. It is specifically for Long Range shooters that already have Fundamentals as part of their process and can shoot 1 MOA or less groups at 100 yards and are ready to move to the next stage.\nWhat you Need to attend:\n1. Your Experience:\n– Have shot your rifle\, scope\, ammo combination numerous times\, have tested ammo to choose the best for your rifle\, and you must have your scope zeroed and centered\, and be able to 5 shot shoot groups of 1 MOA or less at 100 yards.\n– Know your scope\, rifle specs\, and how it all works.\n– Know how to slip your turrets on your scope\, and have the tools needed to do that.\n– For safety reasons if your Rifle or Scope is non-functional on the course\, you will be pulled from the course.\n2. ORA Membership + Waiver\nIf you are NOT an ORA 2026 Member\, you must register as a Guest\,\nand you must sign the Guest & Handload Ammo Waiver. Copy this link into your browser and sign every time you are a guest.\nLink: https://waivers.targetscore.com/d/RGv5jeWGv8AJmt\nORA Guest fee is $45 and you must tick the Guest Fee box in Practiscore when paying and it adds the $45 Guest fee to your payment.\n(ORA allows you to attend twice as Guest\, and then you must Join ORA the cost ranges from $0 to $195. If you want to Join ORA sign up online at this link): https://ontariorifleassociation.ca/membership-types/\n– Have a Ballistic Solver (Kestrel & AB Quantum App) with a Gun/Bullet profile created.\n– Chamber Flag / ECI (Empty Chamber Indicator) must extend into chamber.\n– Scope preferably 25 x magnification in FFP\, w/ Christmas tree reticle\, in MIL or MOA\n– Rifle Magazine: box type 10 or 12 round removable mags or hunting rifle set up.\n– 100 rounds of factory match ammo or safe Hand-Load ammo minimum.\n– Bi-Pod approx. 10″ height\, plus extensions with Cant Control.\n– Shooting Bag (used under Buttstock) preferably an Armageddon Schmedium\n w/ heavy sand\, or crushed glass fill. This is an inexpensive item\, that will give you a\n big improvement. Please buy one. If you have a Caldwell or some Amazon special\n filled with beans etc.\, you will only reduce your ability to shoot accurate groups.\n– Scope Level – either mechanical of electronic that attaches to Scope or Picatinny rail\,\n and shows you when rifle is level\n– Tools – All tools to adjust and slip your scope turrets\, scope mount\, buttstock\, and rifle\n– Shooting mat\n– Electronic Ears w/ Spare batteries. MANDATORY.\n You must be able to hear Range Commands. For safety reasons anyone not hearing\n or understanding range commands will be pulled from the event.\n– Eye Protection MANDATORY.\n– Sun Hat MANDATORY.\n– Sunscreen MANDATORY.\n– Water Minimum 5L\, preferably w/ Electrolytes. If so\, it’s mandatory to bring an EpiPen\, Antihistamines\,\n Benadryl etc. There will not be any on site as we cannot administer medication.\nCost and Course Details:\n– Course Cost is $400 (If a not an ORA Member + $45 ORA Guest fee)\n– Read/watch course material sent to you in advance by email\n– Attend a 90-minute Zoom meeting to cover course material\n– 2 days shooting at CFB Borden\nCourse Schedule:\n– Meet at 7.45 am at gate to Vimy Range (Do not be late)\, check in with Staff at gate. If gate is open proceed to the range\, leave all equipment in car and find a staff member to receive further instructions.\nHead Rifle Coach: Craig Samuel (aka Coach Sammy) is a:\n– Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) – Registered Coach with the Professional Coaching Program\n– Shooting Federation of Canada (SFC) – Shooting Instructor in ISSF (Olympic) shooting\, Certified in Pistol\, Rifle and Shotgun\n– Coach Sammy competes in long range rifle\, pistol and 3 gun matches of various disciplines and likes to shoot high scores. Precision and accuracy make Coach Sammy smile.\n– SAFETY BRIEFING: For safety reasons If you are not present for the start of the Safety Briefing you will not be allowed to shoot.\n– READ THIS PLEASE: If you are not certain you will attend this Course DO NOT REGISTER.\n– REFUNDS: Refunds are available up until 45 days before the course\, less an Admin fee of $25. Under no circumstances can any payments be transferred to a future event or used by someone else.\n– DO NOT SPEED ON BASE. This is a training Base\, and MPs will ticket and possibly escort you off the Base. Follow Speed limit signs.\n50 km/h through centre of CFB Borden\, 60 Km/h on Range Road\, 15 Km/h on any range access road. Pass Marching Troops at a max of 15 km/h and less to be respectful.\n– MATCH CANCELLATION BY MILITARY:\nIf the event is cancelled by the Military because they need the Range\, then a full refund will be issued\, if an alternate date does not suit you. This is not common and usually done well in advance due to CAF Range requirements.\n– Because we shoot on a Military Range\, Range Control can shut us down for a high Fire Index\, Lightning or Storm Warning etc. This is out of our control\, and there is no refund in that scenario. I have seen it happen only once in the last 10 years\, but it’s part of shooting on a Military Range\, and must be stated.

SUMMARY:Thurmont 2Gun PCSL June 13
DESCRIPTION:MATCH DESCRIPTION:\n*** 100th Match!! ***\n2026 Thurmont PCSL 2gun matches are similar to 3GUN but use only a pistol and carbine. The matches are conducted according to PCSL rules\, hit factor scoring. The rules are strict and the safety procedures must be followed exactly. Violations of the rules may result in disqualification and/or expulsion from the match. If you are unfamiliar with these rules\, study them carefully before registering for your first match. Target distances will vary per match and can be from approximately 5 to 300 yards. Because of the scoring\, we strongly recommend that you know your zero and holds out to 300 yards. The long distance stage can make or break your match. 5 Stages\, round count is approximately 100 rifle\, 100 pistol. Bring a rifle sling as some stages may require one.\nRULES:\nPractical Competition Shooting League Rule: https://www.pcsleague.us/\nSAFETY AREAS:\nThurmont is a COLD range. Firearms must be unloaded at all times except during the match under the direct supervision of a safety officer (SO). Handling of firearms at vehicles is prohibited. Long guns must have an EMPTY CHAMBER INDICATOR (Chamber Flag) IN PLACE at all times starting from the moment the rifle is uncased for placement in a gun cart or slung. Pistols must be unbagged and holstered ONLY at designated safety areas. EARTHEN side berms behind the line of fire are the safety areas. On many of the bays\, there are tables with roofing labeled “loading” and “unloading” that are CASS (cowboy) and DO NOT apply to 2GUN. NO AMMUNITION HANDLING in safety areas. Note that cinder block and plywood walls ARE NOT safety areas. Use of suppressors is not prohibited but the match director can not assure accurate times. Magnetic\, steel core\, steel (bimetal) jacketed ammunition is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.\nREGISTRATION AND SQUADDING:\nAll registration and squadding is done exclusively via Practiscore up until 6PM the day prior to the match\, at which time registration closes. Steps are as follows:\n1) Register via Practiscore\n2) You will receive a confirmation email from Practiscore verifying receipt of your registration. If you don’t receive the confirmation email\, check that your email address was entered correctly or the confirmation went to your spam folder (so check it).\n3) You will receive a second email from Practiscore that you have been approved by the match director to attend the match and to squad yourself. You are responsible for selecting your squad. If you don’t receive the approval to squad then the match is full (even though the squad list may still show openings). If you receive the approval to squad email but you fail to squad yourself by 6PM the day before the match\, you will NOT be allowed to shoot. Walk-ons the day of the match are NOT ALLOWED to shoot the match. The match director does not maintain a wait list for this match. If you wish to shoot with specific people\, it is highly recommend that you register and squad early. We will not be able to accommodate squad changes on the day of the match.\nCANCELLATION POLICY:\nIf you are registered and squadded but need to cancel\, it is very important to withdraw from the match as soon as possible\, and no later than 3PM the day before the match. If “stuff happens” (i.e. life) after 3PM\, withdraw anyway and simultaneously email the match director even up to the morning of the match. Repeated no-shows without prior notification will jeopardize future approvals.\nFees: $40. $30 for TCSC members. Please bring exact change.\nRegistration: 8:30 am\nSafety Brief: 8:45 am\nHammer Down: 9:00 am
