SUMMARY:2026-05-06 Outlaw Practical Match at Phoenix Rod and Gun Club
DESCRIPTION:This will be a 4 stage all paper practical match open to all handguns and rifles\, See below.\n$22 with a $7 discount for verified PRGC members.\nAppendix Carry is ONLY authorized for Marksman and/or C Classification or above.\nIn addition to the normal divisions three new divisions have been added for this match:\nRIFLE DIVISION – Follow all PCC rules with the exception a rifle may be used instead of a pcc. The rifle must be chambered in an intermediate cartridge\, such as 223/556 or 7.62×39. So no AR10/308 based rounds.\nRIMFIRE RIFLE – Any rimfire rifle. Rifles will follow all the PCC division rules and starting conditions.\nRIMFIRE PISTOL – Pistols will use Carry optics division rules and the same start conditions as any other pistol division for the stage.\nThe Practical Division is always happy to have new shooters at our matches but it is important that you be familiar with the rules and procedures before you shoot your first match.\nWe will cover specific rules and answer questions at the new shooter’s briefing before the match but the following general rules will keep you in compliance when you first arrive:\nA. Bring your unloaded gun to the match in a case or bag.\nB. Handle your gun only at one of these two approved times:\n1.	When in the marked safety areas. These areas are where you transfer the gun from your bag or case to your holster at the start of the match\, and where you return it to your bag or case when you are finished with the match.\n2.	When explicitly authorized by the RO when it is your turn to shoot a stage. You are allowed to handle your gun beginning with the “Make Ready “ command and ending with the “Range Is Clear” command.\nC. Do not bring ammunition into the safety areas.\nD. Guns are to be unloaded with no magazines in them at all times except for when you are the shooter and have been given the “Make Ready “ command. After the “Range Is Clear” command you are again subject to the unloaded gun requirement.

FAMILIES WILL BE SQUADDED TOGETHER WHEREVER POSSIBLE AND WILL LIKELY BE ASSIGNED TABLET DUTY. EXPERIENCED SHOOTERS WILL BE PAIRED WITH ANOTHER EXPERIENCED SHOOTER WHERE POSSIBLE AND WILL TRADE OFF ON TIMER DUTY. NEW\, NON-FAMILY SHOOTERS\, WILL LIKELY HAVE PAINTING DUTY. IF THERE IS AN ESSENTIAL PLACEMENT\, BEYOND FAMILY\, EMAIL STEEL@BTSA.CLUB\nWhat:\nThe Wednesday night steel program is an opportunity for BTSA club members and shooters from the broader community to experience the speed shooting sport of steel challenge. Steel challenge involves shooting 5 steel targets in 8 configurations several times each with the shooter’s cumulative time being their score. Time is added for misses and certain procedural infractions. \nSteel challenge may be shot with either centrefire handguns\, .22lr rimfire handguns\, .22lr rimfire rifles\, or pistol caliber carbines. No magnum calibres or steel core/steel jacketed ammo are permitted.\nWednesday night steel is run as a 4-stage match. Shooters with current USPSA membership will be able to receive a classification\, provided they complete all 4 stages\, when the classification system updates the following Wednesday.\nWhere:\nBTSA range. Bay 1-5. Shooters may drop their gear at the top but please park down the road or in the lot as parking at the top is needed for match staff. The main road gate and BTSA gates are scheduled to be opened at 5:30 pm to allow entry for non-members but may be open earlier if members are already up to at the facility. \nWhen:\nEvery: Wednesday from April 22 – September 16\, 2026\nSetup typically begins at 5:30pm and safety briefing at 6 pm unless otherwise stated at the top of the match description. We are typically done in about 2.5 hours. All competitors are expected to be present for setup and to remain for tear down. If you will be running late\, please send the MD an email. Start times may move a little throughout the season to accommodate sunset times. Make sure to check the start time for each event.\nCost:\nOnline payments only\nBTSA members- $5 per gun\, max 2 guns\nNon-members- $15 per gun\, max 2 guns\nJuniors (under 18\, member and non-member)- First gun free. Someone on your squad will be able to help you reload as you shoot if you have 3-4 mags. Shooters with 1-2 mags will only be able to shoot their loaded magazines as reloading this much on the course will slow down the evening too much. 10 round magazines are strongly recommended for pcc shooters. Please pre-load your magazines at home when possible.\nAmmo: 100 rounds minimum for 4 stages. Experienced shooters should bring 150-200. Novice shooters should bring 250.\nHolster: belt holster for any Center fire handguns that fully covers the trigger. “concealment/IWB” holsters are not permitted. Rimfire guns are not drawn from the holster. It is best to bring a case/gun bag for these.\nGun belt for holster divisions \nShooter results:\nResults will be posted to PractiScore\, usually the same night. If you need your results to be anonymous\, make sure to contact the match director well in advance.\nFirst time shooters/new to steel challenge:\nYou must contact steel@btsa.club if you will be coming out for your first steel challenge. We need to know what your previous experience level is and if we will have enough experienced staff to accommodate you. When you arrive\, please leave all your gear in your vehicle and identify yourself to an official/person in charge. We will place you on a squad with some experienced shooters to help get you started. Please note\, when a family member is on the line\, they are under the care of the range officer. Please do not distract them from following the RO’s instructions. If the RO is unfamiliar with your particular firearm\, they will ask for input as needed. If you would like coaching or advice while you are shooting\, please let the RO know and they should be happy to oblige.\nA note regarding classifications:\nClassifications are used to help competitors measure their success against shooter shooting with a similar ability and skill set. A D class production shooter and a Grand Master rimfire rifle open shooter can’t be equally compared. In order to earn a classification\, you must be a current USPSA member and complete any 4 stages in a single division. Classifications are specific to each division and do not carry over between Steel Challenge and USPSA. To check your classification\, go to SCSA.org (not USPSA.org).\nRule book:\nThe official steel challenge rule book governs our Wednesday night matches please make sure to give it a read through so that you are familiar with the rules\, commands\, and equipment divisions.\n****AT AN ABSOLUTE MINIMUM\, ALL COMPETITORS SHOULD READ CHAPTERS 1\,5\,6\,8\, AND 10 AS THEY COVER SAFETY\, BASIC RUNNING OF THE MATCH\, AND DQ-ABLE OFFENCES****** \nhttps://scsa.org/rules\nRefunds\nIf you are withdrawing from the match\, please email steel@btsa.club for the most timely refund. Refunds for voluntary withdrawals will be less credit card processing fees and must be received by the registration closing date so we have a chance to attempt to fill the empty slot. If the match needs to be cancelled due to conditions or unexpected events\, a full refund will be issued less any unrecoverable expenses (none are typical for weekend matches and this applies more to provincial/national matches)
